[synopsis] => A Blade of Grass is a compilation of daily blog posts dating from a few days after the 2016 presidential election through mid-June 2017. The blog, entitled The Republican Democratic Rag, was written with a few purposes in mind. To help the author and those that read it to have a better understanding of our country's laws and Constitution. To examine the makeup of the government that would now presume to make decisions on behalf of the American people. To examine the legal legitimacy of Donald Trump as the head administrator of our government's administrative branch. Lastly, to provide the author with a forum for expressing his dismay and anger about the state of our country and the acceptance of behavior from our elected and appointed officials that would have been unacceptable and was unheard of prior to Donald Trump. Rather than simply reprinting these blog posts in the chronological order in which they first appeared, A Blade of Grass organizes and looks at these posts through the lens of specific topics: our country, our elections, our Constitution, our administration, our Congress, the Second Amendment, health care, Donald Trump, and the case(s) for impeachment of Donald Trump. The goal of this book is one that is time sensitive; to have it published prior to and during the campaign 'season' for the 2018 mid-term elections. Certainly, there are concepts and suggestions that take the long view and therefore do not have quite the urgency of the stated goal, but I truly believe that the literal numerical majority of American citizens and voters are not 'ok' with Donald Trump and the ways in which he is representing and steering our country. I also believe that there are two paths to place a check on Trump's activities. One is to 'flip' both houses of Congress, so that a rubber stamp for Trump's 'policies' will no longer exist. The second is for Trump's impeachment by the House of Representatives and subsequent removal from office by the Senate. Although this second option would be the most desirable, the likelihood is limited due to the number of votes necessary in both houses of Congress to accomplish such a result. Even after (if) both houses of Congress are switched from Republican control to the Democratic Party, a two thirds majority vote is required for both the decisions of impeachment and removal. It should also be noted, here, that if Donald Trump were to be removed from office, there have been concerns voiced regarding Mike Pence becoming the head administration of our country. This possibility should not be a large concern, because if Trump is removed, then that will mean that Congress' will is controlled by Democrats and therefore will provide a check on damages that Pence would attempt to set into motion in his limited time in office. I am a proponent of what I refer to as the 'Horton Hears a Who' theory. The more voices that are added to making something known, the louder that collective voice is. Conversely, the fewer voices, the weaker the collective voice. There is a threshold after which the collective voice becomes so loud and so insistent that it is next to impossible to be ignored. A Blade of Grass is my attempt to add my voice to the collective voice that is clearly saying, screaming, in many different ways and by many different groups and persons that where we now find ourselves as a country on this Earth is unacceptable to us and it must change. In The United States of America, there is truly only one set of actions that can change our government and those that represent us. That action is to vote. Voting is ultimately that collective voice. Those of us that know that what is happening in our country is unacceptable, must vote and we also must discuss our current state of affairs with our friends, family and co-workers in an effort to have them go to the polls in November of 2018 and vote to correct the error that was made in November of 2016.
