[synopsis] => Herbert Marcuse worked for the US secret service from 1942 to 1951 to actively participate in the fight against the Nazi system. He made analyzes of the psychological and ideological constitution of the authoritarian German collective. He wanted to understand and fight the enemies from whose midst he himself had emerged and, after victory, help to reintegrate them into civilization. Marcuse shows how the technological rationality and the pragmatism of the Germans with their tendency towards mythical irrationality combine to form a ›new German mentality‹. Every project of liberation and "re-education" in Germany, so Marcuse's conclusion, has to include this specific mentality in its calculation.
