Description
Annually, approximately 66,000 women are violently killed in countries around the world. While historically these crimes were grouped into the general category of homicide, femicide, the murder of women because of their gender, is now being recognized as a unique issue and a hate crime. However, some assert that the fact that 80 percent of murder victims are male suggests that the issue of femicide is being blown out of proportion. This volume explores the forms femicide takes around the world and potential means of combating it, and discusses the varying perspectives on the usefulness of its categorization.
