Description
A powerful documentary that reveals the personal journey of Bram Fischer, the white South African lawyer responsible for saving Nelson Mandela and other top ANC leaders from execution during the Rivonia Treason Trial. It is a deeply moving account of a man who spent his early years entrenched in the aristocracy of Afrikanerdom, but who later secretly became head of the South African Communist Party. Fischer led a brilliant defence of Mandela at the Rivonia Trial, speakingout against apartheid. Eventually, Fischer membership in the Communist Party was uncovered, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He received a limited release when he was dying of cancer in 1975. Winner: Best South African Documentary Awards The 2007 Encounters Documentary Festival Director: Sharon Farr.
